Spyker begins arbitration process

It has been confirmed that Spyker has now begun the arbitration process, as the customer car row escalates to the next stage.

It is not yet known officially which teams are involved because although there is doubt over the 2007 entries from Toro Rosso and Super Aguri, it is thought that the 2007 Red Bull entry could be involved - since like the Toro Rosso it is 'built' by a third party called Red Bull Technologies - and even the 2006 Toro Rosso, which was essentially the 2005 Red Bull.

Speaking to Pitpass on Friday morning a source close to the FIA confirmed that though the process has begun; "it will take forever, cost a fortune and simply move backwards and forwards," he said.

The next step is that the Chamber of Commerce in Lausanne will make a ruling, however it could well decide that the FIA needs to make a technical ruling, hence the claim that this will take forever.

Brazil is assessing "with sympathy" a project to organize the so-called "bank of the South", but said "much negotiation" is needed before it sees the light, Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Celso Amorin told Efe.

He added that the initiative, championed by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, "is very interesting," and has a great potential to promote development, but clarified that there are some technical considerations and even diverging stances that need to be addressed and solved.

Unofficial mediator calls on Israel to begin peace talks with Syria

Syria is ready to begin peace talks with Israel, a Syrian-American unofficial negotiator said on Thursday, calling on Israel to start peace talks with Syria, local media reported.

Syrian-American businessman Ibrahim Soliman met with the Knesset (Parliament)'s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee members on Thursday, and made an impassioned appeal for the two countries to restart peace talks, according to local Israeli daily Ha'aretz.

Israel and Syria should hold secret negotiations in order to reach a peace agreement, Soliman told the Knesset committee.

"Since 1948 Israeli leaders have said they are ready to talk peace anytime and anywhere," Soliman said to reporters at a news conference. "Syria right now is ready to talk peace," he added.

"I challenged the Israeli government to answer (Syrian) President Bashar's call for peace and sit down together," he added.

The International Association of Fire Fighters will file the arbitration request with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service within a week, said James Johnson, a district vice president with the Washington-based union.
