| Qualcomm Says Nokia Payment An Admission: Qualcomm
Going for Nokia's jugular Qualcomm is now claiming the moral high ground saying the phone company is tacitly admitting Qualcomm owns the rights to the disputed CDMA technologies currently being licensed by it. The American wireless technology company has issued an "arbitration demand" with the American Arbitration Association, claiming that Nokia's continued use of Qualcomm patents in its CDMA handsets obliges it to pay the same royalty as in the current agreement and prohibits it from asserting patent claims against Qualcomm. The existing license agreement signed in July 2001, expried on April 9th, forcing Nokia to use its right to extend the agreement under the terms of the first licence. This is exercisable through the end of 2008. .

Spyker moves to arbitration
The Spyker F1 team has now begun the process of arbitration against various other teams over the question of company cars. It is not currently clear which teams are involved because the terms of the Concorde Agreement remain secret but it could be that Super Aguri, Toro Rosso, Red Bull Racing and Honda F1 are all involved. It may simply be a question of the two teams which Spyker claims are using customer cars rather than the alleged suppliers as well. It will take several months for this to develop - allowing time for negotiation - but the process will now move forward to be ruled upon by the Chamber of Commerce in Lausanne. It may be that the court will throw the question back to the FIA for a technical ruling on the cars. This will add to the length and cost of the process. The entire procedure will now begin but this will not stop talks between the various parties involved and we anticipate that a solution may be found before there is a ruling.
Rufus Wainwright - Going To A Town (Geffen)
As superb as Rufus Wainwright's pair of Want albums were, there was a tendency for him to shove everything but the kitchen sink in. While the epic, operatic nature of the songs were stunning, it all became a bit overwhelming at times. Going To A Town sees the boy Wainwright take a more low-key approach. Accompanied by just a piano, some subtle strings and sister Martha on backing vocals, the first single from the forthcoming Release The Stars is a low-key masterpiece. It's a beautiful, moody mediation on the current state of the USA. Nothing escapes Rufus' eye, be it New Orleans ("I'm gonna see some folks who have already been let down") or the Republican Right's rampant homophobia ("Tell me, do you really think you go to hell for having love"). The resigned tone suits Wainwright perfectly, and if this is any indication, Release The Stars could well be his long promised masterpiece.
