Malaysia To Continue FTA Talks With US, Says Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (bernama) -- Malaysia will continue its Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with the United States on the basis that the country's interest will continue to be the underlying factor for any negotiation. Making the announcement today, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the issue was discussed at the Cabinet and a stand was taken that the talks be continued until both parties reached a consensus on the issues raised. The talks are also to continue without any particular timeframe set, Najib, who is also the Defence Minister, told a press conference at his ministry here, Wednesday. A total of 18 issues are being discussed under the FTA negotiation including the areas of industrial goods, textiles and clothings, Customs procedures, intellectual property rights, agriculture, financial services, telecommunications, environment and investments.

Interactive CD helps young workers negotiate rights

A new interactive CD will inform young workers about their rights in the workplace, and develop an awareness of negotiation skills, says Employment and Industrial Relations minister, John Mickel.

The CD, produced by the Young Workers Advisory Service is funded by the Queensland Department of Employment and Industrial Relations to provide young people under 25 with advice on work matters.

The service provides young people with free and confidential information, advice, advocacy and support on all employment issues.

"Increasingly, negotiation is becoming a central part of our working lives, particularly since the federal Government introduced Work Choices 27," Mickel says.

"While many employees will remain covered by the award system where fair terms and conditions of employment are already determined by union and employer negotiations, an increasing number of workers are being asked to negotiate their own wages, leave entitlements and other employment conditions.


Namibia: Committee Squabbling Threatens Fair

Endless squabbling by the Ondangwa Trade Fair Steering Committee is set to derail the staging of a trade fair scheduled for end of April following accusations of mismanagement and underhand dealings against the Mayor of Ondangwa, Priscilla Kauna Nashandi.

Nashandi who is also the chairperson of the Steering Committee, vehemently denied the accusations.
