Arbitration adjourned as Jet, Sahara lawyers meet up
NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: The legal battle between Jet Airways and Air Sahara took a curious turn on Monday with the arbitration panel adjourning the much-awaited hearing by a day. However, the battery of high-profile lawyers representing the warring sides were in meeting till late on Monday evening at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. Though there was no official confirmation, sources indicated that the arbitration panel — headed by Justice Lord Stein of the UK — and the two arbitrators representing the respective companies (former chief justice of India SP Bharucha represents Jet while Sahara group is represented by Justice BP Jeevan Reddy, a Supreme Court judge) have told the lawyers to look for a mutually acceptable solution. Sources indicated that if the lawyers were not able to reach a consensus over the next 48 hours, the arbitration panel would then hear out the respective pleas and deliver its decision (which will be binding on both parties) within the next two weeks.
